We rescue dogs who, due to their breed, age, or health, are destined to either be euthanized or spend the rest of their lives in a shelter.

What accommodations will you have at FDHS?
We intend to provide our dogs with large rooms to sleep in; and large indoor and outdoor areas to play and socialize with volunteers and other dogs.

Will you rescue dogs who have behavior challenges?
Yes. If we choose to rescue a dog with behavior challenges (such as difficulty socializing with other dogs or people, anxiety, or other difficulties), we plan to work with animal behaviorists so we can make our guests feel as happy and comfortable as possible.

Are there other dog sanctuaries in Illinois?
To our knowledge, there are no other dog sanctuaries in Illinois whose purpose is to rescue dogs and allow them to live the rest of their lives at one location.

How is FHDS funded?
We are funded through donations from people like you. Without your support, we would be unable to maintain the safety and comfort to our guests.
